Simon Kjaer denies making Liverpool 'trophy' quotes

A Denmark international defender reportedly said that he opted for Fenerbahce over the Reds.

NEW FENERBAHCE SIGNING Simon Kjaer has dismissed suggestions that he turned down a move to Liverpool on the basis of wanting to win trophies.

A previous story claimed he turned down the chance to join Liverpool because he did not expect to be able to win trophies there.

However, the defender has since come out and denied the quotes attributed to him.

After a near-miss on the Premier League title in 2013-14, the Reds had a more modest season last year and had reportedly left the Denmark international with no confidence that glory would be in their future if he made the move to Anfield from Lille.

“It’s not a secret that my family are Liverpool fans and a move to Liverpool would make my family happy,” Kjaer was originally alleged to have told Haber Turk.

“Liverpool wanted me but I want championships, I want to win trophies. Fenerbahce’s goals this season are big and it was explained to me very well.”
