IT’S BEEN ANNOUNCED that Noel Gallagher will serve as a guest panellist on BBC’s Match of the Day 2 this weekend.
The former Oasis guitarist and avid Manchester City fan is no stranger to the BBC Sport studios, having interviewed Mario Balotelli for Football Focus in 2012.
He is set to appear on the weekly show to discuss Man City v Newcastle among other matches.
Past celebrity football pundits to feature on the BBC include actor Russell Brand, comedy duo Frank Skinner and David Baddiel and then-Prime Minister of Britain, Tony Blair.
And they are not the only TV channel to hire a well-known name from outside the world of sport to comment on a footballing highlights show, with RTÉ once inviting former Taoiseach Bertie Ahern to feature on The Premiership in the early 00s (see footage below from 3.17 on).
