UFC FEATHERWEIGHT CHAMPION Conor McGregor was named ‘Fighter of the Year’ at last weekend’s 2015 Fighters Only World MMA Awards in Las Vegas.
McGregor is currently in Dublin preparing for his lightweight title bout against Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 196 on 5 March, so he wasn’t in Vegas to accept the award.
Instead, he sent a video — part of which was played at the ceremony at The Venetian. However, Fighters Only has now released some footage of his acceptance speech which wasn’t played on the night.
In it, McGregor takes a swipe at UFC lightweight Nate Diaz, who called out the Irish superstar after his win against Michael Johnson in December — a fight for which Diaz earned a disclosed sum of $40,000.
“I heard Nate Diaz couldn’t even afford to fly over to Las Vegas for the ceremony,” said McGregor.
He added: “Stop holding bitterness deep in your bum soul; stuck on $20,000 to show and $20,000 to fight. I wipe my ass with that money. I tip your wage, Nate.”
McGregor also directed some comments at UFC featherweight contender Frankie Edgar — an apparent dig at Edgar’s association with the KHK MMA team, which is run by Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, son of the King of Bahrain.
“I heard Frankie’s little ass is wrapped in a burka. I heard he’s dressed like a little sheikh’s servant, struggling to make a few quid,” McGregor said.
