Mick McCarthy steps up Horgan interest with Dublin trip to see Dundalk v AZ Alkmaar

Ipswich are believed to be one of many clubs interested in signing the winger.

IPSWICH BOSS MICK McCarthy will be in Dublin tonight as he steps up his interest in signing Dundalk winger Daryl Horgan.

The 24-year-old is reportedly the subject of interest from a number of Championship clubs while the likes of West Ham United, Sunderland, Newcastle and Rangers are also believed to be tracking the player.

Former Ireland boss McCarthy is clearly another big fan of the Galway native as he is making the trip across the Irish Sea to see Horgan and his Dundalk team-mates take on Dutch side AZ Alkmaar at Tallaght Stadium tonight (20.05 kick-off) in the Europa League.

Ireland manager Martin O’Neill, who called up Horgan and Dundalk defender Andy Boyle for the Boys in Green’s win in Austria earlier this month, will also be in attendance tonight with assistant manager Roy Keane.

“It’s a tough match. [Alkmaar] have to win the game themselves,” O’Neill said today of the challenge facing the Lilywhites.

“They’ve only got two points on the board, Alkmaar, so it might not be too bad for Dundalk in that sense knowing that they have to go for it.

“It’s a great occasion for Dundalk, it’s fantastic and they deserve this chance to go through.”
