IT’S SAFE TO say that Nigel De Jong didn’t live up to the expectations at the LA Galaxy after MLS released a video expressing delight at the Dutch midfielder’s departure.
The former Manchester City and AC Milan star has swapped his life in Los Angeles for a stint in Instanbul after he agreed on a move to Turkish giants Galatastaray.
De Jong played just 18 times for the Galaxy since he joined the club on a free transfer from Milan in February.
MLS’ Twitter account didn’t hold back upon hearing the news and were clearly unimpressed by his contribution in the league, which they framed as: no goals, no assists, three yellow cards, one red card and a three-match suspension for a tackle on Darlington Ngabe of the Portland Timbers
MLS essentially said ‘good riddance’ to De Jong and that the “ugly tackle” on Ngabe which led to his “three-game suspension was probably his most dramatic accomplishment in MLS”.
The video shows a number of aggressive tackles De Jong, some ugly ones but some which were perfectly timed.
“Obviously this move is good for the Galaxy on a couple of fronts,” the video continues.
“There is going to free up a lot of salary space and it lets the Galaxy figure out their defensive situation.
“The Galaxy will definitely be a better team.”
Some send-off eh?
If that video doesn’t play, you can find the clip here.
