Northern Ireland 2-0 Norway

FIRST-HALF GOALS from Jamie Ward and Conor Washington helped Northern Ireland to a 2-0 win over Norway in Windsor Park this evening.

Michael O’Neill’s side remain second in Group C, five points behind leaders Germany who extended their 100% record on Sunday with a 4-1 win against Azerbaijan.

Nottingham Forest’s Ward opened the scoring after just 87 seconds before Washington doubled the hosts’ advantage in the 33rd minute, keeping a cool head to slot the ball through Rune Jarstein’s legs.

Norway did have their chances, not least when Havard Nordtveit’s free kick drew a fine save from Michael McGovern.

But Lars Lagerback’s first match in charge was to end in defeat, leaving Norway stranded in second last place, seven points behind Northern Ireland.
