THE RED BULL Cliff Diving World Series kicked off yesterday on the rugged shores of the extremely picturesque Inis Mór.
Now in its ninth season, 22 male and female divers competed yesterday and more than 15,000 people were in attendance.
Starting on a 27-metre platform, competitors dived straight into a legendary blowhole known as ‘Poll na Peist’, and went head-to-head for the world series title.
Britain’s Gary Hunt and Australia’s Rhiannan Iffland made perfect starts to their respective title defences at the first stop, with both divers coming from behind to secure crucial victories. The next stop on the World Series is the Azores cliffs in Portugal.
