LATE DERRY CITY captain Ryan McBride is being remembered accordingly at the Aviva tonight as Ireland host Wales in their World Cup Group D qualifier.
The 27-year-old died suddenly on Sunday, just hours after leading his team to a 4-0 win over Drogheda United, and was laid to rest in Derry yesterday.
Close friend and former teammate James McClean is wearing the number five jersey in his honour. The Welsh visitors also pulled off a lovely gesture before kick-off as they presented President Michael D Higgins with a number five jersey.
Both the late Milo Corcoran and Ray Brady were also remembered with a moment’s applause for the trio before the game, while there was another moment’s applause in the fifth minute of play in memory of McBride.
Both sides and their management teams are also wearing black bands.
