THE TRAVESTY WAS team-mate Jonathan Osorio getting the merest of touches right on the line and spoiling everything.
But Toronto FC’s Sebastian Giovinco, who has single-handedly pushed the well-worn and weary Canadian side to the brink of the play-offs, conjured a superb piece of skill last night as his team beat Chicago Fire.
Faced with a ridiculous angle, the mercurial Italian used the outside of his right-boot to send a deft chip over the head of goalkeeper Jon Busch and it curled deliciously towards the far corner.
Osorio made sure from a few yards.
Later in the game, Giovinco’s corner broke for Jozy Altidore to score – Toronto winning out 3-2.
The two assists ensured the ex-Juventus man broke a MLS record for combined goals and assists.
In 2012, Chris Wondolowski scored 27 times and assisted on 7 more for the San Jose Earthquakes. But Giovinco now has 19 goals and 16 assists – not bad for his very first campaign in North America.
He’s also a shoe-in to be crowned the league’s MVP when the season concludes in December.
