'He looked okay in the dressing room' - Leo Cullen delivers injury update on Sexton

The Leinster coach also revealed Marty Moore suffered a hamstring injury.

LEINSTER HEAD COACH Leo Cullen has confirmed that Jonathan Sexton failed his Head Injury Assessment (HIA) following his withdrawal early in the first-half against Wasps – while tighthead prop Marty Moore has suffered a suspected hamstring strain.

Sexton left the field in the ninth minute following a nasty clash of heads with former Leinster centre Brendan Macken.

Following his HIA, Sexton did not return to the action with debutant out-half Cathal Marsh taking his place for the remainder of the Champions Cup clash.

With Ireland’s opening Six Nations clash against Wales in less than a fortnight’s time, Sexton is now a major doubt for the championship opener at the Aviva Stadium on 7 February.

“Johnny just got a head knock so we didn’t want to risk him going back out there so he’s up and about in the dressing room being assessed so he’ll follow the usual return-to-play protocols,” said Cullen following his side’s 51-10 defeat in Coventry.

“Those guys are in (Ireland) camp next week, but he looked okay in the dressing room there.”

Cullen also provided an injury update on tighthead prop Marty Moore, who was replaced on the hour mark.

“Marty looks like he’s done something to his hamstring. Until we get a scan, it’s hard to know at this stage but it looks like it’s some sort of hamstring strain/tear.”
