THERE’S A HOST of brilliant efforts among the contenders for Soccer Republic’s Goal of the Month for July.
The standout one though is perhaps Dundalk ace Michael Duffy’s incredible volley against Levadia Tallinn in the second leg of their Europa League qualifier at Oriel Park.
From an ultra-acute angle, he beat Levadia goalkeeper Sergei Lepmets with a sublime, excellently executed volley to seal the win for the Lilywhites.
“It’s goal of the season,” Dundalk boss Stephen Kenny said of the strike afterwards.
“It was incredible technique. It took our breath away. There was a sense of astonishment that it actually ended up in the net, such was the acuteness of the angle. Incredible goal.”
Pick that out! What a goal from Michael Duffy. @DundalkFC lead Levadia Tallinn 2-1 at Oriel Park (3-1 on aggregate) and you'll do very well to find a better finish anywhere in Europe tonight than this peach of a volley #RTEsoccer pic.twitter.com/ArDW8MxkAt

Duffy is joined on the list of contenders by teammate Patrick Hoban — his goal was scored that same day, moments earlier — while there’s also two Derry City players up for the award, Aaron Splaine and Ally Roy.
Cork City, Sligo Rovers, Bohemians and Limerick are the other clubs with nominees.
