The bookies make Vincent’s 1/4 favourites to retain their title today — but the Marino men haven’t managed a three-in-a-row since their heyday in the 1970s.

Will this be their day? Or is there value in 7/2 shots Ballyboden?

A thoroughly entertaining U15A final has just finished up here with Whitehall Colmcilles beating Kilmacud Crokes by a point. If the standard is indicative of Dublin underage football in general, the future of the capital is in safe hands.

High praise from Pillar Caffrey in today’s programme. Are win for another Connolly masterclass this afternoon?

Couple of results from elsewhere to bring you up to speed on:

Both teams will line out as named. We’re just about ready to go here.

THROW IN: We’re underway

2 mins – First chance for Mossy Quinn as he tries to twist and turn inside Shane Clayton but he can’t get his fisted attempt away cleanly and it’s wide.

3 mins – Great pressure from the Boden forwards who swarm around Mick Concarr and force him to concede the free. Should be the opening score…

4 mins — Ballyboden 0-1 Vincent’s 0-0: Andrew Kerin points the free.

5 mins — Ballyboden 0-2 Vincent’s 0-0: Great start for Boden against the holders. Ryan Basquel spins away from the tackle of Shane Carthy and skies the ball. When it drops, it drops just over Michael Savage’s crossbar.

7 mins — Ballyboden 0-4 Vincent’s 0-0: Two scores in the space of a minute and Boden are flying it here early on! Colm Basquel cuts in from the left before pointing, and then Ryan adds his second of the afternoon moments later.

8 min – Nathan Mullins tries to pick out Cormac Diamond on the edge of the Boden square but he’s crowded out. Vins could do with a score just to settle things down.

9 mins – Very composed stuff by Boden as they work the ball out from the back through Macauley and Stephen O’Connor before Colm Basquel comes deep to link the play.

10 mins – Diarmuid Connolly hasn’t really been allowed into the game so far. He tries a pot-shot from out on the left but it drifts right and wide.

11 mins — Ballyboden 0-5 Vincent’s 0-0: Superb score by Darren O’Reilly who is wearing seven but started out around the half-forward line. He came straight up through the middle there and popped it over the bar.

GOAL! Ballyboden 1-5 Vincent’s 0-0 (Kerin, 13′)

Ballyboden are running riot here. There’s an element of luck about their goal but they all count, and an eight-point margin in a county final is a mountain to climb.

Andrew Kerin punts a high ball into the air and when it drops, Colm Basquel gets the better of Hugh Gill in the scramble. He ships it off to Kerin who palms the ball past Savage.

16 mins – Chance for Mossy Quinn to get Vincent’s on the board but his 45 tails off left and wide. That’s their fourth wide by my count.

18 mins – This should be bread and butter for Diarmuid Connolly, especially given the form he’s been in recently, but it’s another bad wide. Vins are struggling.

20 mins – Vincent’s are starting to force the issue a bit now and it’s not working out for them. Cormac Diamond kicks their latest wide.

21 mins – Make that seven wides for Vincent’s now as Mossy Quinn sends another chance a-begging.

22 mins — Ballyboden 1-5 Vincent’s 0-1: Finally a Vins score as Gavin Burke steadies himself and points.

24 mins — Ballyboden 1-6 Vincent’s 0-1: Aran Waters drives in off the right wing and even though he’s slightly off balance, still steers his point over. Eight-point game again.

25 mins – Another bad wide for Vins from a scoreable position. Ruairi Trainor is the culprit this time.

Tommy Conroy has made a couple of changes. The injured Daithi Murphy is replaced by Kevin Golden, and Joe Feeney is on for Ciaran Dorney.

26 mins — Ballyboden 1-6 Vins 0-2: Mossy Quinn taps over a free.

29 mins – Oooh, that was close for Boden. Great work by Colm Basquel who spun free of a couple of tackles before playing the ball to Darren O’Reilly. His shot is arrowing towards the top corner before Mick Concarr shots out a paw and turns it around the post.

Paul Durcan misses with the 45 — that’s Boden’s first wide.

30+1 mins — Ballyboden 1-7 Vincent’s 0-3: Ruairi Trainor adds another for Vins. but Boden hit straight back with a beautifully taken score from Ryan Basquel — his third from play.

HALF TIME: Ballyboden St Enda’s 1-7 St Vincent’s 0-3

Well, what do you make of that?

SECOND HALF: We’re back. Can Vincent’s mount a comeback?

PENALTY FOR BALLYBODEN!

It’s going from bad to worse for Vins. A quick free from Michael Darragh Macauley sets Conal Keaney free and he’s brought down by Michael Concarr.

Kerin to take…

GOAL FOR BALLYBODEN! Ballyboden 2-7 Vincent’s 0-3 (Kerin pen, 34)

And he converts — Boden lead by 10 and Vins’ Dublin reign looks like it’s done and dusted.

36 mins — Ballyboden 2-8 Vincents 0-4: Mossy Quinn points a free but the respite is brief and Keaney curls over a fine point to restore Boden’s 10-point margin.

40 mins — Ballyboden 2-8 Vincent’s 0-5: Ruairi Trainor tries to arc one over Paul Durcan, a la Lee Keegan, but the keeper gets his hand up and knocks it over the bar for a point.

42 mins — Ballyboden 2-8 Vincent’s 0-6: Another half-chance for Vins but Shane Carthy rockets it over the bar. At some stage, Vins are going to need those to dip the underside of the bar if they’re to have any chance of making a game of this.

45 mins — Ballyboden 2-8 Vincent’s 0-7: A glimmer of hope among Vins fans as a Mossy Quinn free cuts the deficit to seven. They couldn’t, could they?

46 mins — Ballyboden 2-8 Vincent’s 0-8: Quinn points another free and that’s four unanswered for Vincent’s. Six in it now.

50 mins – A little bit of zip has gone out of the Vins’ fightback here as the mistakes count rises on both sides. The next score or two will be absolutely crucial.

52 mins — Ballyboden 2-8 Vins 0-9: Feeney is fouled and Quinn points the free. Vins aren’t dead yet…

52 mins – Savage defending by Bob Dwan who won’t give Connolly a moment’s peace. Boden force the turnover at a vital time.

54 mins – Boden playing a little bit of keep-ball as they look to take the sting out of Vinnies’ comeback and wind down the clock. They’ve conceded a free now…

55 mins — Ballyboden 2-8 Vincent’s 0-10: Mossy doesn’t need to be asked twice over a simple one. Four in it, five to play.

56 mins – Boden turn over possession cheaply again and Vins will have a chance to build from the back…

57 mins – Half a chance for Joe Feeney but it’s a wide. Time is running out for the reigning Dublin and Leinster champions.

58 mins – Connolly tries to drive the ball through a crowd of bodies but it’s blocked down and Boden win the free-out. Breathe…

60 mins – Chance for Andrew Kerin to add an insurance score but it’s a bad wide. We’re into added time now though…

60+1 mins – Connolly tries to touch the ball down to Ruairi Trainor as Vins go in search of their goal but it’s behind for a 45.

60+1 mins – Low from Mossy but Boden claim and clear! Time must nearly be up…

60+2 mins – Shane Clayton does enough to hold off Joe Feeney and win the free out. In a matter of moments, Boden will be champions again!

FULL TIME: Ballyboden St Enda’s 2-8 St Vincent’s 0-10

Barry Tiernan blows the final whistle and it’s all over. Ballyboden St Enda’s are the Dublin football champions once again!

What a day for Boden! They came in as underdogs after just managing to grind out a win against Clontarf with 14 men last week, and they have dethroned the county and provincial champions!

Vincent’s did their best to mount a comeback in the second half but they left themselves with a mountain to climb.

And so it’s Ballyboden who will represent Dublin in the Leinster championship. They play St Patrick’s in the Gaelic Grounds, Drogheda, next Sunday.

That’s it from us for now. Congrats to Boden and commiserations to Vincent’s. Thanks for reading.
