Tyrone county board to investigate ugly incidents in club final

Officials have condemned the unsavoury scenes during yesterday’s game between Carrickmore and Dromore.

THE TYRONE COUNTY board have vowed to launch an investigation after a brawl broke out in the county final yesterday.

Violence occurred on the pitch and also spilled over to sections of the crowd, leaving several spectators injured.

The incident resulted in the sendings off of Carrickmore’s Gabriel McCallan and Plunkett McCallan, while the county board have confirmed they will pursue the matter further in a statement:

“The Tyrone Competitions Control Committee (CCC) will review the full match report from the referee and will also review video evidence of the game.”

They added that the onus was on those who partook in the violence to come forward:

“The people involved should come forward and accept responsibility for their actions. Their failure to do so will only further discredit their own clubs and our association.”

This is the second time in recent months that violence has overshadowed a Tyrone GAA match, after a referee was attacked during a ladies’ football match last June.

The game yesterday ended with Dromore beating Carrickmore 0-11 to 0-6.
