CONOR McGREGOR IS a 2/9 favourite for Saturday night’s headline bout against Nate Diaz at UFC 196 in Las Vegas.
Diaz stepped in at short notice last week to replace the injured Rafael dos Anjos, but — at 3/1 — the Californian is a big underdog to inflict a first UFC defeat on the Irish star.
Their fellow UFC fighters also appear to agree with the bookmakers’ take on this weekend’s bout. Speaking to MMA Crazy TV, the stars of last weekend’s UFC London card were overwhelmingly backing McGregor for victory.
Brad Pickett, Scott Askham, Norman Parke, Makwan Amirkhani and Gegard Mousasi all predict a win for the Dubliner, with Mike Wilkinson the only one who fancies Diaz’s chances at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
Michael Bisping seemed particularly convinced that McGregor will get the job done. He said: “There’s no way in hell that Diaz is going to beat Conor McGregor. It’s as simple as that. It just ain’t going to happen.
“Diaz is a great fighter but Conor is on another level, and not to mention [Diaz] is taking the fight on a week’s notice. On a week’s notice, there’s no way he could defeat someone like Conor McGregor. Diaz could only possibly dream of winning by decision, and he’s not going to. He’s only had one week to prepare. Put your money on Conor McGregor.”
