SKY SPORTS PUNDIT Gary Neville believes that since last November Manchester United’s defence has been the best in the league and you would be hard pushed to find a “more well drilled back four unit”.
Louis van Gaal’s side have now kept consecutive clean sheets against Spurs and Aston Villa, which Neville feel is positive news for the club. But he does believe they are still lacking in the forward areas.
“The football going forward, when would you ever say at Manchester United the football going forward is more concerning than the defending. This moment in time they’ve got the foundation they just need to get the front bit right.
“They’re not as exciting and they’re not creating as many chances as they should, but they can go a long way if they keep keeping clean sheets like they are.”
Neville said he was surprised that Daley Blind has been deployed as a centre-half beside Chris Smalling, but believes that it is just a “stopgap”. He said that he, like everyone else, believed Manchester United would strengthen at the back by signing a player like Sergio Ramos or Nicolas Otamendi during the summer transfer window.
