THE SEANIE JOHNSTON transfer saga is finally at an end.
At an appeal hearing last night, the Central Appeals Committee (CAC) upheld the former Cavan forward’s appeal against the decision of the CCCC to block his move from Cavan Gaels to St Kevin’s of Staplestown.
The decision, released by the GAA today stated the appeal was upheld, “on the basis that there had been no objection by either Cavan Gaels or Cavan County Committee within the ten day time limit prescribed in the Official Guide.”
Johnston has been pushing for a move to Kildare since he was cut from the Cavan panel by former manager, Val Andrews.
Since then, his move to transfer from Cavan Gaels to St Kevin’s had been turned down on regulations of residency and ethos.
Chairman of Cavan Gaels, Michael Mooney wished Johnston well in his move to a new county, telling TheScore.ie:
“Everyone at Cavan Gaels would like to wish Seanie Johnston the best of luck, it’s always disappointing when a player of his quality moves on, but it’s done and dusted now.”
“All parties are glad it’s over.” Added Mooney, “Seanie can concentrate on his football now and Cavan Gaels can move on.
“Seanie’s always welcome at Cavan Gaels.”
