Katie Taylor's rival Amanda Serrano set for retirement fight in January
KATIE TAYLOR’S BOXING rival Amanda Serrano has announced that she will retire after defending her unified featherweight world titles in a farewell bout in January.
Serrano made history with the Bray legend in 2022 when they became the first female boxers to headline New York’s Madison Square Garden, a fight which Taylor won via split decision.
Taylor went on to win their two other encounters in 2024 and 2025 to complete an epic trilogy.
Serrano wrote a heartfelt open letter to Taylor ahead of the latter’s final-ever fight at Croke Park, where she defeated Flora Pili to end her career as a three-time undisputed champion of the world.
Taylor’s rival and seven-weight world champion will now prepare for her last bout in the new year, when she takes on Australia’s Skye Falzon in her home country of Puerto Rico.
Serrano, who holds a 50–4–1 record with 32 knockouts, will defend her unified WBO and WBA featherweight world titles on Saturday, 9 January 2027 at Coliseo de Puerto Rico in San Juan.
“One last fight. One last walk. One final chapter,” the 38-year-old wrote in a statement on her account on X. Serrano is also hoping to achieve the all-time women’s knockout record which she currently shares with American Christy Martin.
“Boxing has given me everything. It’s taken me around the world, allowed me to chase dreams I once thought were impossible, and given me the opportunity to inspire the next generation of fighters.
“But no matter how far this journey has taken me, Puerto Rico has always been home. My heart, my pride, and the island I’ve carried with me every time I stepped into that ring.
“I couldn’t imagine a more meaningful place to say goodbye than in front of my people, on my island. I’m not done just yet. We have one more night of history to make together.”
