OPEN CHAMPION DARREN Clarke has enlisted the help of Ian Woosnam’s former bagman.
Paul ‘Wobbly’ Morbey caddied for the Welshman for 14 years, including Woosnam’s 1991 US Masters win.
Clarke last month fired John Mulrooney after hitting his worst round in five years, in Abu Dhabi.
The move came despite Mulrooney holding the bag during Clarke’s only major win, at Sandwich, in July of last year.
The relationship was reportedly frayed for quite some time and culminated in a row which ended the partnership last month.
The appointment of Morbey, who is the full time caddy for Danny Willet, is just a three week deal. However, it will have been easily organised as the two have known each other for a long time.
Morbey told Sky Sports: ”Darren and I go back a long way, so I’ve known him for ages and I’m looking forward to the three-week spell.”
That spell will begin next week at the WGC Accenture match play championship in Arizona.
From there they will go on through to Palm Beach for the Honda Classic and the marriage of convenience will end with the WGC Cadillac championship in Doral, on 11 March.
