The Evo-Stick Southern Premier League side is in dire straits financially and is in desperate need of investment with long-serving chairman Rafi Razzak set to step down at the end of the season after 25 years.

The public can bid to buy the club up until 13 December at which point the board will do a background check on the successful bidder.

Speaking to BBC Sport, supporter and former director of Basingstoke Simon Hodd said the future is uncertain if they don’t find a buyer.

“The world needs to know the club is for sale,” he said. ”If we don’t find a buyer, nobody knows what’s going to happen to the club. It could just disappear.

“It’s a club with a very long tradition and what better way to keep that going than to let the world know it’s for sale?”

The Hampshire-based club have debts of £2 million on their Camrose Stadium home and had planning permission for a new 5,000-seater capacity ground rejected by the council in January.

Basingstoke aren’t the first club to appear for sale on eBay, however, with Tranmere Rovers — now plying their trade in the Conference — being listed for $10 million in 2009.
