UFC MIDDLEWEIGHT CHAMPION Michael Bisping was the name on Chris Weidman’s mind after he won a submission victory over Kelvin Gastelum in last night’s UFC on Fox 25.
Weidman, a former champion in the middleweight division with three consecutive losses before last night, dominated Gastelum the majority of the contest both on his feet and on the ground before claiming the third round victory.
The 33-year-old did look in trouble at the tail end of the first round when Gastelum connected with a vicious punch and followed up with a barrage that was ended by the bell in Long Island.
After the New Yorker took his UFC record to 10 – 3 in the UFC with an arm triangle chokehold, Weidman directed his attention to Bisping:
That British bum who is crying in his freaking house right now: I’m back, baby, I’m back! What’s up? Stop hiding from the real men. Let’s go, baby. I’m the champ and everyone knows it.”
Earlier on the card, Darren Elkins came out on top of a close featherweight contest with Dennis Bermudez, winning by split decision.
Light heavyweight Patrick Cummins won by the same fine margin against Gian Villante, while there were earlier knock-out finishes; a first-round stoppage for Eryk Anders over Rafael Natal and this clinical connection from welterweight Alex Oliveira to finish Ryan LaFlare less than two minutes in to their second round.
