DESPITE HAVING THE ball in the back of the net five times over two legs, Bohemians saw their European campaign come to an end in dramatic fashion.
And although the gulf in class was shown over two legs at times, a sense of what might have been will linger on had some tight decisions gone their way.
Goals from Franculino, Sofus Johannesen and Stanley Iheanacho broke Bohs hearts.
But Zane Myers and Dayle Rooney took the shine off the result with deserved second-half finishes.
With somewhat of a mountain to climb against the classy hosts, Alan Reynolds kept faith with 10 of the 11 that started in the battling first leg defeat at Tallaght as Bohs went searching for a much improved performance than the one on show at the RSC on Sunday.
And they did just that, starting like a house on fire showing no fear for the task at hand.
Skipper Dawson Devoy served a suspension at the weekend, but was back to his influential best as his side came flying out of the traps and had the ball in the back of the net not once, but twice in the opening nine minutes.

Following a swift attacking move Ross Tierney, having picked up a smart lay-off by Douglas James-Taylor, played an inch perfect through ball to Adam McDonnell who made a clever third man run.
The all-action midfielder cut back inside and coolly slotted the ball home only to see the flag go up for the narrowest of offsides.
Moments later Pat Hickey smashed home a header, only to see this one quite bafflingly ruled out for a potential infringement on keeper Elias Rafn Olafsson, by Tierney.
The one way traffic from the visitors was brought to a crashing halt when Guesung Cho got in behind Cian Byrne following a long ball over the top. Bohemians stopper Paul Walters had a rush of blood to try to claim the ball but was caught in no-man’s land and eventually brought down the South Korean striker.
And just like he did in South Dublin last week, Franculino opened the scoring and made no mistake from the penalty spot to all but put the tie to bed.
Having been booked in his bruising battle with Senan Mullen, winger Abdou Aziz Ndiaye could have received his marching orders when he was adjudged to have gone down too easily grabbing the ball.
But the Italian official kept his cards in his pocket on this occasion, with the Senegalese attacker swiftly subbed before the half-time break.
Shortly after the restart, the hosts showed their clinical side when Johannesen collected Franculino’s lay-off and buried the ball into the bottom corner to deny the Gypsies any chance of building up a head of steam.
But to their credit Bohemians continued and got the moment their travelling support deserved when substitute Myers ran direct at the heart of the defence and saw his powerful strike deflected past Olafsson.

But chasing what would have been an equaliser Bohs were undone on the break as Iheanacho tapped home from an unselfish Dario Osoria square ball.
There was still time for Dayle Rooney to head home brilliantly late on to ensure Bohemians travelled back to Dublin with their heads held high.
