HOFFENHEIM STAR BORIS Vukcevic, who was seriously injured when his car was in collision with a lorry in September, woke up on Friday morning after seven weeks in an artificial coma, his club announced.
“We’re delighted that Boris’s condition is getting better. He’s on our mind every day,” said manager Andreas Mueller in a statement.
The 22-year-old Vukcevic suffered severe head injuries in the collision on 28 September and was air-lifted to hospital in Heidelberg, where he was operated on and put in an artificial coma.
The Germany under-21 midfielder, who is of Croatian origin, has played at Hoffenheim since 2008 and scored a goal in the club’s 5-3 defeat to Freiburg on 16 September.
Vukcevic is a diabetic and was hypoglycemic (had low blood sugar levels) at the time of the accident, a medical report has revealed.
