Breaffy and Castlebar to contest Mayo football final

The Mitchells comfortably secured a victory in today’s semi-final against Knockmore.

Castlebar Mitchells 3-7

Knockmore 0-9

Castlebar Mitchells filched three goals during the second Mayo SFC semi-final at McHale Park to book a final date with Breaffy.

The Mitchells settled quickly and they were 2-5 to 0-6 in front at the break and after the restart they were sufficiently cute to close out the game.

James Durcan and Neil Douglas bagged the early goals which afforded Castlebar a significant lead that they didn’t relinquish.

Knockmore battled hard with Kevin McLoughlin and James Ruddy registering efforts, but Castlebar were five ahead at the turnaround.

When the action recommenced Knockmore craved a goal, but that is what Castlebar got when Danny Kirby guided them back into the decider with Breaffy.

Breaffy 1-15

Charlestown 1-6

Inspired by the O’Shea brothers Breaffy cruised to a surprisingly emphatic Mayo SFC semi-final win over Charlestown at McHale Park.

A solid first half display from Breaffy ensured they went in protecting a 0-9 to 0-5 lead at the interval.

After the restart Breaffy remained in control with the O’Shea’s making valuable contributions as Charlestown were overpowered.

In the second period a flash of individual brilliance from Aidan O’Shea saw Breaffy net a goal which gave them a 1-12 to 0-6 cushion.

From then on all that needed to be determined was how much Breaffy would prevail by as Charlestown grabbed a last gasp consolation goal from substitute Brendan Quinn.
