Confirmed: United and Arsenal agree Van Persie deal

Both clubs have announced that the transfer will take place subject to a medical on Thursday.

ROBIN VAN PERSIE is on the verge of signing for Manchester United, it was confirmed this evening.

The 29-year-old striker expressed his desire to leave the North Londoners back in July and it looks like he will get his wish as Arsenal have reluctantly agreed to sell the Dutchman to rivals United.

Alex Ferguson has been desperate to bring last season’s Premier League top goalscorer and opened discussions with the Gunners earlier this week.

United will reportedly pay around €25m for a player who has one year remaining on his current contract.

After losing Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri last season, it is another blow to Arsene Wenger as he tries in vain to build a team capable of once again competing for the title.

However, they have signed Lukas Podolski and French striker Olivier Giroud as potential replacements already this summer.

Van Persie is due to travel to Manchester for a medical and to agree personal terms tomorrow.

On their official website, an Arsenal statement read: ”Arsenal Football Club can confirm that terms have been agreed for the transfer of Robin van Persie to Manchester United.

Van Persie will travel to Manchester on Thursday in order to agree personal terms and complete a medical ahead of the proposed move.”

United have released a similar message on ManUtd.com. It reads: ”Manchester United is pleased to announce it has reached agreement with Arsenal Football Club for the transfer of Robin Van Persie.

“The deal is subject to a medical and the agreement of personal terms. A further announcement will be made in due course.”

Italian champions Juventus had been keen on a move but the player is now set to form a formidable partnership with Wayne Rooney for the coming season, which starts this weekend.
