Carl Frampton splits with Eddie Hearn and joins rival promoter Frank Warren

The European champion’s next fight, against an opponent still to be announced, will be in Wembley Arena on 20 July.

EUROPEAN SUPER-BANTAMWEIGHT champion Carl Frampton has split from promoter Matchroom Sport and joined the rival stable of Frank Warren.

Frampton launched himself into the frame for a world title shot when he knocked out Kiko Martinez in front of a packed Odyssey Arena in February.

The Belfast fighter returns to the ring on 20 July as part of a bumper card in Wembley Arena, with his opponent yet to be confirmed.

The “Behind Enemy Lines” promotion will be Frampton’s first with Warren after Matchroom, run by Eddie and Barry Hearn, confirmed that they have parted ways with one of their star names.

The split originated in a disagreement with manager Barry McGuigan, Eddie Hearn said in a short statement today.

“We have enjoyed our time working with Carl Frampton as promoter of his boxing career.  However, after the success of the last Frampton fight we were informed by Barry McGuigan that he wanted to be joint promoter in future Frampton fights.

Whilst we had no problem whatsoever in agreeing purses for Carl Frampton, we felt that such a relationship with Barry McGuigan represented a potential conflict of interest with Barry’s role as Carl’s manager and we could therefore not agree to be involved on this basis.

“Matchroom Sport and I wish Carl every success in his future boxing career.”

Cork’s Gary “Spike” O’Sullivan and former world title contender Dereck Chisora will also appear on the Wembley card.

O’Sullivan defends his WBO International title against British & Commonwealth middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders while Chisora meets the unbeaten American Malik Scott.
