CARL FRAMPTON IS set to move up to a division and fight Leo Santa Cruz for the WBA featherweight title this summer.
According to the Los Angeles Times, the Belfast fighter has opted against an immediate rematch with Scott Quigg in order to take on the Mexican in either Southern California or Las Vegas.
It adds that Showtime has announced that the two fighters have verbally agreed a match-up in “late summer”.
Current IBF and WBA super-bantamweight champion Frampton took his professional unbeaten run to 22 bouts with a split decision victory over England’s Quigg in Manchester a fortnight ago.
27-year-old Santa Cruz, meanwhile, has a record of 32 wins and one draw and saw off Spain’s Kiko Martinez in Anaheim’s Honda Centre on 27 February with a fifth round TKO.
