CARLOW’S REMARKABLE CAMPAIGN continues after they came from behind to defeat Leitrim this afternoon and ensure they have now won three games in a single championship season for the first time in 73 years.

The last time the county stitched together such a winning run was in 1944 when they won their only Leinster senior football crown to date.

After getting past Wexford and losing to Dublin on the provincial stage, they rebounded with a qualifier tie success against London and then today came from behind to defeat Leitrim at Netwatch Cullen Park.

Trailing by 0-9 to 0-7 at half-time to a Leitrim team who responded impressively from their heavy loss to Roscommon in Connacht, Turlough O’Brien’s side hit full speed in the second half.

Top scorer Paul Broderick put them ahead 1-9 to 0-9 when he netted in the 44th minute and the spoils were assured when Ciaran Moran grabbed their second goal in the 63rd minute.

Their excellent progress means they are in the draw on Monday morning for Round 3B of the qualifiers with Tipperary, Monaghan and Armagh or Westmeath…
