Harrington and Clarke level par at Simmons Bank Championship

It’s the penultimate play-off event for the Charles Schwab Cup.

PÁDRAIG HARRINGTON WAS scuppered by a late double-bogey as he sits alongside Darren Clarke on even par after the first round of the PGA Tour Champions’ Simmons Bank Championship.

Zach Johnson leads on eight-under in the penultimate play-off event for the Charles Schwab Cup at Pleasant Valley Country Club in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Harrington, who ranks fourth behind Stewart Cink in the season-long standings, looked to have made a move with three back-nine birdies, but a double-bogey five at the short 17th proved a setback.

Clarke, who began the week ninth in the standings, carded four birdies and four bogeys as he also signed for a 72.

Former American Ryder Cup captain Johnson leads Sweden’s Henrik Stenson by one stroke after his bogey-free 64.
