Charlie Smyth confirmed as New Orleans Saints kicker in sensational recall

Mayobridge man will line out against Cleveland Browns.

DOWN’S CHARLIE SMYTH is set for a sensational return to kicking duties for the New Orleans Saints when they play the Cleveland Browns this Sunday.

“Charlie will kick this week,” Saints head coach Kellen Moore confirmed in a press conference on Wednesday.

Smyth’s recall had been reported by NFL journalist Michael McQuaid as well as local news sources.

Smyth has had an eventful couple of years with the Saints, being waived twice as part of final roster cuts, only to be re-signed the following day to the practice squad.

It has emerged that Daniel Carlson has been released from the Saints in recent days, leaving the door open for the Mayobridge man to show the kind of talent that brought a 56-yard field goal against the Miami Dolphins almost a year ago.

“Tough decisions,” Moore added.

“Daniel’s made some really good kicks for us, I think just the consistency thing, I just felt like this was the best decision for our football team moving forward. These things are never easy, but Charlie’s done this for us back in the last year and so he’ll be ready to go.”
