Dempsey departs Spurs for the MLS

The US international is returning to his homeland with Seattle Sounders after six years in the Premier League.

TOTTENHAM HAVE AGREED the transfer of Clint Dempsey to the MLS, ahead of his move to Seattle Sounders.

Dempsey only arrived at White Hart Lane in 2012 from Fulham in a £6million deal, but the arrival of Roberto Soldado from Valencia has pushed him down the pecking order ahead of the 2013-14 campaign.

The USA international returns to his homeland after a six-year stay in the Premier League.

Dempsey left New England Revolution to join Fulham in January 2007 before making his switch to Tottenham last year.

The 30-year-old made 43 appearances for Tottenham, scoring 12 goals.

While the move has yet to be confirmed by the Sounders, a statement on Tottenham’s official website revealed that Dempsey is heading back to the USA.

It read: “We have reached agreement with Major League Soccer for the transfer of Clint Dempsey.

The United States international returns to MLS after making 43 appearances and scoring 12 goals in our colours following his signing from Fulham last summer.

“We wish Clint every success for the future.”
