THE UFC HAVE announced that Cody Garbrandt will embark on a stint as a coach on The Ultimate Fighter before defending his newly-acquired bantamweight title.
Garbrandt and TJ Dillashaw will serve as opposing coaches on a season of TUF — The Ultimate Fighter: Redemption — which will feature welterweights who have previously been contestants on the show.
The news was announced during last night’s UFC Fight Night 103 broadcast and the series is due to premiere on FOX Sports 1 in the US on 19 April, although a date and venue for the meeting of Garbrandt and Dillashaw has yet to be determined.
Garbrandt (11-0) was crowned UFC bantamweight champion last month when he pulled off a major upset by defeating Dominick Cruz via unanimous decision at UFC 207.
The 25-year-old and Dillashaw (14-3) were stablemates at Team Alpha Male until the latter’s acrimonious departure from the Sacramento-based camp in 2015.
After six years with Urijah Faber’s team in California, Dillashaw — who held the UFC bantamweight title at the time — officially departed for Elevation Fight Team in Colorado in the build-up to what was an ultimately unsuccessful title defence against Cruz.
Garbrandt and Dillashaw have traded barbs in the media recently and they look set to settle their differences in the octagon at some stage in 2017.
