PRO12 CHAMPIONS CONNACHT are exploring the option of ground-sharing Eamonn Deacy Park with Galway United.
The Irish Independent are today reporting that the province are due to meet with the Galway Football Association to discuss the possibility of redeveloping the ground.
If the plans were to get the green light, the capacity of the stadium would increase to between 8,000 and 12,000.
Connacht have made no secret of their intention to upgrade their current Sportsground home but moving to Eamonn Deacy Park, formerly Terryland Park, may now be a genuine option.
In a statement released to The42 today, Connacht CEO Willie Ruane said:
“We have previously indicated that we are exploring all options with respect to a new stadium. This process is ongoing and until such time as we are in a position to discuss anything specific, we have no further comment to make.”
As the province’s support levels swell on the back of unprecedented success, the organisation are fully aware of the need to increase business opportunities.
Towards the end of last season, Pat Lam admitted the province needed to play at a ‘realistic stadium of 10, 12, 15,000 people.’
