Brisbane Lions moves to secure Conor McKenna for another two seasons
CONOR MCKENNA HAS signed another contract to keep him at Brisbane Lions in the AFL.
The most successful Irish player in Aussie Rules, with two Premiership titles, has signed on for another two years that will take him to his 150th game in the AFL the next time he plays.
Previously with Essendon Bombers, McKenna returned home to play for Tyrone and won the All-Ireland in 2021. His return to Australia has coincided with the Lions winning the last three Premierships. His deal was agreed at the same time as other key men Darcy Fort and Lincoln McCarthy.
Brisbane Lions general manager of football Danny Daly said retaining the experienced trio was a significant result for the club.
“It is fantastic to have Darcy, Conor and Linc committed to the Brisbane Lions as they have all played an important role in our success and will continue to do so,” Daly said.
“All three offer plenty on-field as players, and their experience and leadership are also incredibly valuable – especially in supporting our younger players.
“We look forward to having all three players and their families continue to be part of the Brisbane Lions.”
Meanwhile, former Dublin ladies’ footballer Jennifer Dunne has extended her deal with the Lions to play in the AFLW in 2027.
