CONOR MURRAY WILL miss Munster’s clash with the Newport Gwent Dragons on Saturday evening after picking up a foot injury at the Ireland camp in Carton House over the weekend.
Having been spotted wearing a protective ‘moon boot’ on his foot on Monday in Maynooth, the fears were that Murray had picked up a knock during training the day before.
Munster coach Rob Penney has confirmed that Murray suffered an injury while with the Ireland squad, but says he is unsure about how long the 24-year-old will be out of action.
He came out of Irish camp with a little aggravated injury, so they’ve put him in a moon boot when they sent him home. We’re just working our way through the ramifications of that but it doesn’t look like he’s going to be available this weekend.”
When asked if Murray’s injury will mean a long-term spell on the sidelines, Penney gave little away: “Hopefully not.” So while other Lions like Sam Warburton and Brian O’Driscoll are set to make their seasonal bows this weekend, Murray will have to wait a little longer.
Meanwhile, Penney confirmed that BJ Botha is making good progress as he continues to recover from a knee injury sustained during the pre-season victory over London Irish.
“BJ is making good improvement, hopefully he’ll be back into some rugby next week and not far away.”
