CONOR MURRAY HAS failed a late fitness test ahead of Munster’s Champions Cup quarter-final with Toulouse at Thomond Park this evening, with Duncan Williams starting in his place at scrum-half.
Murray has been struggling with a shoulder injury for the last three weeks, and was given every opportunity to prove his fitness but doesn’t make this evening’s clash in Limerick.
Murray will be replaced in the southern province’s XV by Williams, with Angus Lloyd coming in on the bench.
Murray initially suffered the shoulder injury during Ireland’s Six Nations defeat to Wales in Cardiff three weekends ago.
Munster director of rugby Rassie Erasmus rated him as “50/50″ to face Toulouse at the start of this week, and the 27-year-old has failed to pull through.
Williams will now make his third start in the Champions Cup and his first this season, having featured off the bench in five other European games for Munster in the current campaign.
Lloyd, on loan from Ulster, is set for his Champions Cup debut if used off the bench, having previously made two replacement appearances for Munster in the Guinness Pro12.
