CORK HAVE NAMED an unchanged side for Sunday’s Munster semi-final as they keep faith with the team that got the better of Waterford last Sunday.
Cork were convincing victors by 0-28 to 0-14 in that quarter-final replay and Jimmy Barry-Murphy has named the same team for the clash with Clare.
It’s notable that there are five new players in the starting line-up from the Cork side that lost last year’s All-Ireland final replay against Clare.
Full-back Damien Cahalane and midfielder Aidan Walsh are both combining hurling with football this year while centre-back Mark Ellis, centre-forward Bill Cooper and corner-forward Alan Cadogan are all newcomers to the fray.
None of those five players were involved in the Cork squad last September. In addition two of the substitutes that Cork brought on last Sunday against Waterford were not part of the panel either for the 2013 decider. Paudie O’Sullivan has just recovered from injury while Brian Lawton is an addition to the Rebel ranks.
Of the 20 players Cork used when they lost to Clare in that battle for the Liam MacCarthy Cup, five players are no longer part of Jimmy Barry-Murphy’s setup. Brian Murphy and Tom Kenny have retired while Stephen White, Cathal Naughton and Killian Murphy are not involved for the 2014 championship campaign.
