Dan Mangan double helps Cork to All-Ireland IHC title win over Kilkenny

The Rebels held firm against the elements and the hosts in the second half in Nowlan Park.

Cork 2-19

Kilkenny 0-18

ST CATHERINE’S CLUBMAN Dan Mangan fired a goal in either half and that made all the difference as Cork defeated Kilkenny in today’s Intermediate All-Ireland hurling decider in Nowlan Park.

With the wind behind them in the first half, the Rebels hit the front thanks to Mangan’s fifth-minute strike. The Cats kept in touch through the free-taking of James Bergin, but when Cork clicked they functioned well and they opened up a 1-10 to 0-08 half-time lead over their hosts.

Despite facing the stiff breeze in the second period, the Rebels maintained control to keep the black and amber at arm’s length thanks to Stephen Condon’s frees and Mangan’s second goal with 10 minutes on the clock ensured the Michael Cusack Cup was due south to Leeside.
