Man United spending spree continues with capture of Daley Blind

The versatile Dutchman arrives from Ajax for €17million.

DUTCH INTERNATIONAL DALEY Blind has joined Manchester United from Ajax, it was announced this evening.

The versatile 24-year-old, who can operate at left-back, centre-back or as a defensive midfielder, is the latest addition to Louis van Gaal’s squad after Ander Herrera, Luke Shaw, Marcos Rojo and Angel di Maria and arrives for €17.5million (£13.8m).

Blind, who is the son of current Netherlands coach Danny Blind, has 19 senior international caps and starred at this summer’s World Cup. He also won Dutch Player of the Year for last season.

“It is a real honour to sign for Manchester United,” he said. ”I have been at Ajax since I was seven years old and I will always have very fond memories of the club and of my time there.

Louis van Gaal is a tremendously talented coach, I have worked with him at Ajax and also for the Netherlands national team and I cannot wait to work with him at the biggest club in the world.”

Van Gaal added: “I am delighted Daley has signed for the club.

“He is a very intelligent and versatile footballer that can play in many positions.

“Daley is a great reader of the game, he has played under my philosophy over a number of years and he will be a great addition to the team.”

Colombian striker Radamel Falcao is also expected to sign on loan from Monaco before the transfer window shuts tonight.
