Murphy leaves Newcastle's Dublin training camp to finalise move to Championship club

The 23-time capped Ireland international is set to join Nottingham Forest.

IRELAND STRIKER DARYL Murphy is poised to join Nottingham Forest after leaving Newcastle’s pre-season training camp in Dublin to finalise the switch.

Murphy has already undergone a medical and will put pen-to-paper on a three-year deal with the Championship outfit in a deal reported by Sky Sports to be worth £2 million.

Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez said earlier in the week that the 34-year-old forward was surplus to requirement at St James’ Park this season and would be allowed to leave if the right offer was received.

Murphy, who joined the Magpies from Ipswich on a two-year deal last summer, scored six goals during Newcastle’s Championship-winning campaign last term but Benitez made it clear the Irish international wasn’t in his plans.

The Waterford native had been the subject of interest from Aston Villa and Sunderland but looks set to become Nottingham Forest’s fifth signing of the summer.
