FORMER MAYO FOOTBALLER David Brady launched a scathing attack on John Evans, a member of the Meath coaching team, on Newstalk’s Off the Ball show on Monday night.
Brady labelled Evans, who resigned from his post as head coach of Tipperary in March, a “mercenary” for opting to join the Meath staff for this season’s football championship.
Evans was on the sidelines for Meath’s weekend win over Wicklow, on the same day that Tipperary lost their championship outing against Kerry.
Brady said, “Is he a bit of a mercenary? He should have stayed with his Tipp team.”
The ex-Mayo star felt Evans should have stuck it out at Tipperary and still coaching the side that lost bravely to Kerry at Semple Stadium on Sunday.

He added that the situation may be beneficial for the Royal County but it certainly did not help Tipperary. Brady continued:
What if (Meath) play Tipp in a football qualifier. They could meet and it is a bit unfair.
“It’s a bit of a mercenary job.”
Brady believes that it would have been less contentious for all concerned if Evans had sat out the season before looking to resume coaching.
“Maybe he just loves football and wants football,” he reasoned.
