David Meyler to be recalled early by Sunderland

The Irish midfielder has scored twice in a brief loan spell with Hull City.

IRISH MIDFIELDER DAVID MEYLER will return to Sunderland from his loan spell at Hull City this weekend.

The 23-year-old will play for the Tigers against Derby County tonight but then go back to provide cover in the Black Cats’ midfield.

Lee Cattermole is expected to be out of action until February, so Sunderland boss Martin O’Neill is recalling Meyler – due to remain at the KC Stadium until January 1st – early.

“They play tonight and he would be recalled for the Christmas period, which we will have to do,” O’Neill said.

O’Neill suggested last month that Meyler was likely to be brought back before the end of his loan.

The Corkman has made seven appearances for Steve Bruce’s side and scored twice.
