THE HIGHLIGHTS HAVE come thick and fast over the opening days of the 2012 Paralympics but this superb shot by GB table tennis player David Wetherill is surely among the most impressive.
The 22-year-old, ranked number five in the world, trailed Germany’s Thomasz Kusiak by two games to one when he wowed the ExCeL Arena crowd with this diving forehand winner.
Unfortunately it wasn’t enough to save the match as Wetherill lost 3-1.
“Very disappointed but I gave it everything,” he tweeted afterwards. “I’ll be a better player for that experience. Amazing. Can’t thank u all enough.”
And he joked: “At least I might get a few YouTube hits. Superman diving forehand winner? I practice that I’ll have you know.
“I say ‘may never play a shot like it ever again’. But knowing me, I probably will.”
