SIMON MADDEN WILL play his football with Derry City for a second season after the club announced this evening that he has re-signed.
The Dubliner excelled at full-back for the Candystripes, who ended the season with an FAI Cup win over St Patrick’s Athletic at the Aviva Stadium earlier this month.
24-year-old Madden returned to Ireland from Leeds United in 2008 to sign for Shamrock Rovers before a short spell with Darlington was followed by a move to Dundalk.
He is one of 13 players currently confirmed as part of Declan Devine’s squad for next season. On the news, the Derry boss said today:
I’m delighted that Simon has decided to re-sign for the coming season, I believe that he is the best full back in the country and has always shown himself to be a model professional and a player with exceptional attacking and defensive qualities.”
The Derry squad is: Ger Doherty, Stewart Greacen, Dermot McCaffery, Shane McEleney, Ryan McBride, Stephen McLaughlin, Patrick McEleney, Ruaidhri Higgins, Kevin Deery, Barry Molloy, Barry McNamee, Rory Patterson, Ryan Curran.
