WESTMEATH FORWARD DESSIE Dolan has announced his retirement from inter-county football.
The 34-year-old helped his county to a Leinster title in 2004, the same year he was named an All Star.
Dolan also won an All-Ireland U21 Football Championship with Westmeath in 1999, as well as three National Football League Division 2 titles at senior level.
A Garrycastle clubman, Dolan confirmed his decision on RTÉ Radio‘s Sunday Sport programme this afternoon. His decision follows Westmeath’s 1-15 to 1-14 defeat to Cavan in yesterday’s All-Ireland senior football qualifier, in which he scored two points.
Dolan has long been seen as a key figure in the county’s growth from being one of the weaker sides in Leinster into a truly competitive outfit. That he has bowed out with a loss in Breffni Park is a shame after a wonderful inter-county career.
