DICK REDMOND, kit man of Ireland’s senior international football team, made the headlines on Monday night after celebrating their Euro 2016 qualification in a Superman suit.
The Dubliner appears to be a bit of character and has a reputation for dressing up — Goalkeeper Darren Randolph told Newstalk’s Off The Ball last night that he once showed up in a mankini.
After a night of partying in Copper Face Jack’s, however, Redmond has misplaced his beloved cape.
“I was just having a few beers and relaxing after the game having just qualified for France,” Redmond told RTÉ Radio 1′s Liveline.
“I put it on the bar and somebody has taken it off the bar or moved it. It’s gone anyway.”
He also tweeted:
Redmond has held the position for the the past six years and says the events of the past few days have been up there with the best.
“It was a great night for the country and for everybody,” he added. “What an emotional night it was with the atmosphere in the stadium and everything.
It was just a thing I had planned to do and thankfully it came off that we qualified because if we hadn’t it would have been on the fire!
“When we came off the pitch and everyone was in the dressing room, I just slipped into the toilet. We didn’t have a phone box!
“But it was good craic and you saw the reaction of the players. They really enjoyed it.”
