Donald says McIlroy is more talented than Tiger, then changes his mind
The world number one caused a bit of a stir with his comments ahead of this weekend’s Dubai World Championship.

LUKE DONALD BELIEVES that Rory McIlroy is the most talented golfer in the world, more talented than 14-time Major winner Tiger Woods.

At least, that’s what he said — before he changed his mind.

The world number one found himself in the eye of a storm as he touched down at the Dubai World Championship where he goes head-to-head with McIlroy in the race the top the European money list.

“In terms of talent I think Rory has more,” Donald told reporters yesterday. ”I think Tiger’s work ethic has always been tremendous and his mindset as well.”

But the Briton quickly rolled back on his comments, explaining that he was simply referring to McIlroy’s natural ability.

“A few people aren’t understanding what I meant,” he tweeted. “The word talent and Rory to me means a free flowing swing who makes everything look so easy.”

[Tiger] has always been the best at getting the ball in the hole when it mattered the most. That’s not just talent, [that's] something else too.

Talent can only take you so far, you need the right attitude (mindset) and application to perform at the highest level.

As the top two earners in Europe this season, Donald and McIlroy have been paired together for the opening two rounds in Dubai this weekend.

A top-nine finish would see Donald win the Race to Dubai, becoming the first player to top the money list on both sides of the Atlantic in the same season, while anything worse would see McIlroy jump to the top with a win.
