Done: United seal Kagawa transfer from Dortmund

The Premier League runners up are believed to have payed €22M for the Japanese international.

HOT ON THE heels of Chelsea beginning their summer spending, Manchester United have announced the signing of Borussia Dortmund star, Shinji Kagawa.

The 23-year-old Japanese international was central to Dortmund’s impressive run to a league and cup double in Germany this season.

Kagawa chipped in with 17 goals and 13 assists from midfield and he is expected to play as the most advanced of a three-man midfield at Old Trafford.

United announced the news on their website earlier this hour and, although the fee is still undisclosed, it is thought to be in the region of €22 million.

When the German club signed the Japanese star in 2010 he cost them just €350,000.

The transfer is complete subject to a medical and the 23-year-old being granted a UK work permit which United expect to come through by the end of the month.

Former United captain, Rio Ferdinand, took time out from waiting on his England call-up to welcome his new team-mate to the club.
