DUNGARVAN Colleges produced a devastating second half performance against Our Lady’s Templemore in this afternoon’s Dr Harty Cup final to claim the title for a second successive year.

The sides were level at half-time, 0-8 apiece, but Dungarvan opened up with some wonderful hurling after the break at sun-kissed Sean Treacy Park in Tipperary town.

Ryan Donnelly netted two goals in the 35th and 53rd minutes as Dungarvan Colleges upped the ante in front of an estimated 3,000 attendance. Donnelly was one of seven survivors from the Coláise na nDéise team that started against Nenagh CBS in last year’s Harty Cup final.

And Dungravan Colleges could also call upon centre back Kevin Daly, who missed the 2012 final through suspension. For the second year in a row, Dungarvan put Tipperary opposition to the sword and the manner of this year’s victory was far more emphatic.

Dungarvan’s team also contained ten of the Dungarvan CBS side that won the Corn Phádraig Munster senior B hurling final against St Joseph’s, Tulla, last weekend.

The critics of Dungarvan Colleges will insist that Dungarvan CBS should be strong enough to compete in the Harty Cup on their own but they link up with St Augustine’s College for the provincial premier A competition.

Patrick Curran, another 2012 survivor, hit 0-8 for Dungarvan, who had scoring contributions from eight players.

The only black spot on Dungarvan’s afternoon was the shoulder injury sustained by the superb Colin Dunford which forced the Colligan Emmets youngster out of the action 12 minutes from time. If Dunford’s injury is serious, he could miss out on Dungarvan’s quest for All-Ireland glory in the coming weeks.

John McGrath, brother of Tipperary senior star Noel, top-scored for outclassed Our Lady’s with 0-5, including four frees. John Joe Ryan scored a consolation goal for the Our Lady’s in the 56th minute.

Scorers for Dungarvan Colleges: Patrick Curran 0-8 (5f), Ryan Donnelly 2-1, Colin Dunford, Christy Breathnach & Tadhg Bourke (3f) 0-3 each, Cormac Curran, Michael Harney & Darragh Lyons 0-1 each.
