Duff to miss Macedonia trip after operation

Fulham winger will miss the rest of the season as he goes under the knife.

IT’S NOT A major surprise - but the news that  Damien Duff has undergone an achilles operation and will miss Ireland’s trip to Macedonia is a major blow for Giovanni Trapattoni.

The Ireland manager yesterday announced his squad for the upcoming Nations Cup games and the Euro 2012 qualifier against Macedonia.

Though he included the winger in the 33-man provisional squad, the Italian was pretty downbeat about the prospects of seeing Damien Duff in Skopje.

And, predictably, Fulham have this afternoon announced that the Dubliner will be sidelined for six weeks, according to Sky Sports News.

He last played in the Cottagers’ 3-0 home win over Blackpool at the start of April.

"It just got to the point where one course of treatment was compromising another course of treatment," said Fulham boss Mark Hughes.

"We made a decision that the best route was to get it sorted."
