ONE OF IRELAND’S future stars, Shane Duffy, has put pen to paper on a new deal at Everton.
The 20-year-old defender, who joined the Toffees from local side Foyle Harps in 2008, made his Premier League debut last season and has appeared five times for David Moyes’ first team today – the latest of which was during their 5-0 drubbing of Leyton Orient in the Capital One Cup last month.
He has also had loan spells at Scunthorpe and Burnley over the past two years and will now be contracted to the Goodison Park club until 2015.
Having switched allegiance from Northern Ireland to the Republic in 2010, Derry native Duffy has become a regular for Ireland’s U21 side but was suspended for their 4-2 win away to Italy on Monday night.
Duffy told Evertontv: “I’m delighted to get it done. It’s taken a bit of time to get it sorted but I am happy now.
I have been here for a while now and loved every minute of it. Now this is sorted I can focus on working hard and continuing to improve.”
